Another Mistake?

Hello, everybody!!!!!

Let’s talk a little bit about John Mayer and his song Comfortable, from the album “Inside wants out”. First, the writer: John Clayton Mayer (born on October 16, 1977) is an American Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist. Originally from Connecticut, he briefly attended Berklee College of Music before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1998, where he refined his skills and began gaining a following. After originally performing mainly acoustic rock, in 2005 he made a transition towards the blues genre with the formation of the John Mayer Trio. The blues influence can also be seen on his album Continuum, released in September 2006. Mayer won two Grammy awards at the 49th Grammy Awards in February 2007, Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Waiting on the World to Change."

Now, about the song: the lyrics is about a girl that he met… but still loves. But, as most of the time, I found a mistake!!!!!!!

Here it goes the lyrics!

Comfortable

John Mayer

I just remembered that time at the market
snuck up behind me and jumped on my shopping cart
and rolled down aisle five
you looked behind you to smile back at me
crashed into a rack full of magazines
they asked us if we could leave

I can't remember what went wrong last September
though I'm sure you'd remind me if you had to

our love was comfortable and so broken in

I sleep with this new girl I'm still getting used to
my friends all approve,
say "she's gonna be good for you"
they throw me high fives
she says the Bible is all that she reads
and prefers that I not use profanity
your mouth was so dirty

life of the party and she swears that she's artsy
but you could distinguish Miles from Coltrane

our love was comfortable and so broken in
she's perfect
so flawless
or so they say

she thinks I can't see the smile that she's faking
and poses for pictures that aren't being taken
I loved you
grey sweatpants
no makeup
so perfect

our love was comfortable and so broken in
she's perfect
so flawless
I'm not impressed
I want you back

Well… “and prefers that I not use profanity”????

NOT use??? Normally, people write “Don’t” in stead of “Not” in these situations, but we’re taking about John Mayer! He can… because of that “license” that I already commented in this blog.

That’s all, folks!

Peace!

Poetry or just another mistake?

Today, my post is about a singer that committed a murder when she wrote the song “She ain’t right for you”…

Let’s talk about her a little bit:

Her name is Macy Gray. Famed for her raspy voice and a singing, Natalie Renee McIntyre was born in September 6, 1967 in Canton, Ohio. To date, Gray has released four studio albums, one compilation album, and one live album. Her music style goes from R&B to Soul. (In my opinion, she rocks!!!!!) (Photo: Macy Gray's new album: Big - realeased in 2007)

But, I’m here to talk about that song that I mentioned first. I’ll paste the lyrics here to start:

Wrote me in a letter, that she makes you feel better
All of the things, you said to her
But I feel what I feel
It’s real

(Chorus)
And she ain't right for you
She don’t know you like I do and
No matter what she do
She ain't right for you
Don’t you wanna be happy?
Baby you should stay with me cuz’
She ain’t right for you
She don’t love you like I do

Turn me around, turn me upside down
Sporting the tears, of a clown
But I feel what I feel
It’s real

(Chorus)

(Bridge)
They will say that I spent all my days, chasing a love
That she took away, but I feel, what I feel

You know baby, I’ve been trying to tell you for a mighty long time
That you could keep looking, you could keep searching, all over the world
But the real thing is right here baby, and no matter what she say
No matter what she do, she don’t love you like I do

(Chorus)

Well... all the bold phrases have some mistake: I guess you know what’s that… at least, I hope you do…

We know that in the simple present, we put –ES in the end of the verbs when the subject is HE, SHE or IT. In the lyrics, our “murderer” wrote without the right termination. You might think: “why would a poet, a songwriter commit such a mistake???” the answer is in the question: she’s a poet! A songwriter! She got a “license” for that… that’s why people accept it. So, you can’t write like that in a test… WATCH OUT! WE HAVE A TEST NEXT WEDNESDAY!!!! LOL…

Well… it was just a curiosity that, in my point of view, is interesting…

And, just to finish, I'll give my own answer to the question I made: Poetry or just another mistake??

PURE POETRY!

Peace!
